MSSC - Midland Boat Station

Troyka Associates are thrilled to share images of the Marine Society & Sea Cadets’ newly completed Midland Boat Station situated on the beautiful banks of the 70-acre Edgbaston Reservoir. The reservoir, recognized as a Local Nature Reserve & a site of historical significance, necessitated meticulous attention to every facet of its design.

In addition to serving Marine Society & Sea Cadets, the new centre also serves as home for Birmingham Vernon Sea Cadets, who have occupied this site since 1947.

Initially commissioned for feasibility design in 2018, Troyka has also achieved ancillary permissions for the temporary boat station & a new slipway along the way. How time has flown! Following a variety of planning challenges, this long-awaited development finally achieved handover in July 24 ahead of programme. Contractor Speller Metcalfe

Troyka Associates are proud that the MSSC Midland Boat Station is the first completed development to align with Birmingham's Masterplan for the reservoir.

This essential facility, located in the heart of the Midlands, will cater for 1,500 sea cadets in an area that has historically lacked accessible waterside amenities. It offers nearly 1,000 residential places for local young people at weekends and school holidays each year. Additionally, it serves as a hub for water sports training, providing various inshore boating activities such as powerboating, rowing, dinghy sailing, paddle sports, and windsurfing.
